Amur Tiger

The Amur (or Siberian) Tiger is the largest living cat in the world, and inhabits the Russian far-east, China and North Korea, NOT Siberia, making one of it's names a complete and total misnomer! They require insane amounts of land to inhabit; ONE adult male may take an area as large as 1,600 square kilometres (40x40 km) for it's own! Due to the relative scarcity of food (also the reason for their gigantic territories), these tigers are known to take domestic dogs from villages when hard pressed for nourishment, leading to hunting and conflict between humans and these tigers. As a result they are considered endangered, and some experts say they are now extinct outside the Amur-Ussuri region of Russia. Iranian and Russian ecologists are now attempting to reintroduce them to the wild in central Asia, however.
